Task Analysis data collection can be completed for three different types of chains (Total Task, Forward Chain, and Backward Chain)
View this guide for more details on Task Analysis data collection: Details of Task Analysis Data Collection--Website
When collecting data for a task analysis, all types of chains noted above will show all of the steps of the chain, however, only the steps needing data to be collected will have the options to collect data (letter or symbol next to the step)
If data does not need to be collected on specific steps (forward and backward chain), the data collection button is hidden.
See visuals below for examples of 3 programs with different types of chains
Forward Chain
All steps are viewable, but only the first step (at this time) has data collection options.
Once a step is mastered, the next step in the chain (second step) will automatically be available for data entry
Backward Chain
All steps are viewable, but only the last step (at this time) has data collection options.
Once a step is mastered, the next step in the chain (second to last) will automatically be available for data entry
Total Task
All steps are viewable and have data collection options when entering data on a Total Task with and without prompts.
Entering Data for a Task Analysis, adding multiple opportunities, and resetting opportunities
When entering data on a task analysis program, you are able to enter one or more opportunities within a session. The multiple opportunities are calculated as a session average for that specific program.
Select the task analysis program from the client’s DATA ENTRY tab
Enter in data for each step (available) for the task analysis
If multiple opportunities need to be added for that session, select the ADD button for another opportunity (If not, select Save)
Once all opportunities are added, select SAVE
If you’ve added multiple opportunities, a number will display above step 1
If an error needs to be corrected on a previous opportunity, select RESET.
You can reset to the previous opportunity or opportunities that came before it by continuing to press the reset button.
If you press reset and you have data entered for a current opportunity, pressing reset will delete all data for the current opportunity.
Example: If a program has 4 opportunities and you need to reset to opportunity 2 to make an edit, it will clear opportunity 3 and opportunity 4
The CLEAR button will clear/delete all steps of the current opportunity on the screen
if you need to clear a previous set of steps, first press RESET to the opportunity, then press CLEAR
Task Analysis Maintenance Data
When entering maintenance data collection, the data entry will look the same as the TA programs as outlined above, but will have the maintenance label on it. You can enter multiple opportunities on mastered programs.
NOTE: Once a forward or backward chain has been mastered and moved to maintenance, all steps of the chain will be presented in maintenance. If the forward or backward chain needs to be reintroduced, the first or last step of each each chain will be presented.
