Staff need an inbox to view team messages & responses from students/family members. Please update the look and feel of the inbox for all users.

User Stories:

  • As an admin, I want to see evidence of parent involvement and behavior feedback being communicated to students so that parents can encourage and support their child at home.

  • As a teacher, I want to be able to share notes about a student’s behavior with other team members that interact with them so that I can support the student throughout their day.

  • As a teacher, I want to be able to share positive feedback and negative experiences with parents so that they can be aware of their child’s behavior at school and support their child’s development at home.

  • As a family member, I want to know what positive and negative behaviors are occurring school so that I can support my child’s development at home.

  • As a student, I want to receive positive feedback and learn ways that I can improve so that I can better manage my behavior at school.


Acceptance Criteria

  • Given I am a user is of the Rethink Ed platform, I will see an update to the look of the inbox list and message view

  • Given I am a team member who has just been tagged by another teacher in the observation of the point tracker, I will see the note in my inbox

  • Given I am a family member connected to a student whose teacher has just saved a Note to Family Member(s) in the point tracker, I will see the note in my inbox

  • Given I am a student whose teacher has just saved a Note to the student in the point tracker, I will see the note in my inbox

  • Given I am a user who has just sent a message, I will see the accurate date and time listed above my message

  • Given a family member, student, or team member responded to my notes, I will see the message listed in my inbox and I can respond back to the message

Inbox

Design

  • On the top nav, the user will see an icon for the inbox.

  • When there is a new message, the icon will show a red dot and the text New message

  • The Inbox message list will be open when they sign in for the day

  • From the inbox, the user will see INSERT NAME sent you a message.

  • Clicking load more will load additional messages

  • Clicking View will open the message

  • The user will see the message and may type in the box to respond.

  • The user will see all messages in the thread

Business Rules

  • Messages will show if:

    • [another team member recorded a note for the team while recording behavior points

    • OR

    • a family member or student replies to a message this team member sent]

    • AND

    • if the user has permission to Read/Respond to Messages

  • This message will only show the first time each team member logs in after a message was sent. Users with permission to read/respond to messages will see the inbox

  • Users will receive a message when:

    • Another team member in the classroom/group records a team note while recording behavior point data and when a team member responds to this note (essentially, this starts a group chat)

    • Another team member records a team note while recording behavior point data for a student the user is also assigned to and no classroom/group is selected. The user will also receive a message is another team member responds to this note (group chat)

    • A student responds to a message the user sent to the student while recording behavior point data

    • A family member responds to a message the user sent to the family members while recording behavior point data

  • We will show the date and time the last message was sent.

  • If responding to a student, that student and that team member are the only ones who see the message

  • If responding to a family member, that family member and that team member are the only ones who see the message.

  • If responding to a team note, all team members assigned to the student with permission to read/respond to messages will receive the response.

Teacher Tags Team Member on Observation

UI

  • Once the teacher writes an observation and tags a staff member or staff members, the note is saved and the summary confirmation. See Track positive and negative behaviors for more information

  • The staff members tagged in the note will see the red dot signal if it is unread and the following message in their inbox: Firstname Lastname sent you a message

  • Once the user clicks on View, the red dot, will disappear

  • When the tagged staff member clicks View, the conversation View will open and the user will see the message that the saved teacher typed observation from Track points sheet

  • The date and time that the teacher saved the note in the Track points sheet is visible above the message

  • The person viewing the conversation will always see the picture of the other person that they are talking to and title Conversation with that person’s name

  • The receiver of the message can send a response by typing in a message and clicking send

  • The last message sent will always be at the top

  • The owner of the original note will then receive a message in their inbox and they are able to click view and respond in the conversation thread

  • The last message sent will always be at the top

  • The user can click the back button to return to the inbox list

Business Rules

  • The complete typed observation will be sent to all tagged team members once saved

  • The user can select up to two teachers to tag to the message

  • If the user has tagged two teachers the message will be sent separately

  • The date and time should display on each response

Sending Message to student from Point Tracker

  • The date and time that the teacher saved the note in the Track points sheet is visible above the message

  • The family member viewing the conversation will always see the picture of the sender that they are talking to and title Conversation with that person’s name

  • The family member can send a response by typing in a message and clicking send

  • The last message sent will always be at the top

  • The teacher will then receive a message in their inbox and they are able to click view and respond in the conversation thread

  • The last message sent will always be at the top

  • The user can click the back button to return to the inbox list

  • The complete typed family member note will be sent to all family members once saved

  • If the message will be sent separately to each family member

  • The date and time should display on each response

  • If there are two connected parents, the message will be sent as separate messages
