Lesson Library (Mental Health Content)

Goal: Add a new lesson type called Mental Health.

User Stories:

As an administrator, I want my staff to actively teach mental health strategies in their classrooms, so that our students gain an understanding of their own mental health needs as well as gain an understanding of the needs of others.

As a teacher, I want to access mental health teaching resources, so that I feel more confident addressing the mental health needs of my students.

As a school counselor, I want to see classrooms proactively addressing issues related to mental health, so that I see less students in crisis.

As a parent, I want to know my child is actively learning about issues related to their own mental health, so that my child can live their best life.

As a student, I want to learn strategies to help me understand and manage my own mental health, so that I can live my best life.

Lesson Type

Design

  • Add new Lesson Type: Mental Health

  • Once Mental Health is selected as the lesson type, users will have the option to filter by grade and/or domain.

Business Rules and Acceptance Criteria:

  • Users who belong to a building that has been allocated Mental Health Student Licenses (Profiles) AND who have permission to either Goal Library → View or View Content → View will see Mental Health Lessons in the libraries.

  • Lesson Types will be listed as:

    • SEL

    • Mental Health

    • Abilities

    • Etc

  • Although these lessons are Tier 1 & 2 lessons, users with ANY education type will have access to these lessons.

Grade Filter

Design

  • When Mental Health is selected as the lesson type, we will show the following options in the grade filter:

    • All Grades

    • Kindergarten

    • Grade 1

    • Grade 2

    • Grade 3

    • Grade 4

    • Grade 5

    • Grade 6

    • Grade 7

    • Grade 8

    • Grade 9

    • Grade 10

    • Grade 11

    • Grade 12

Business Rules

  • We will default to All Grades in the general lesson library

  • We will default to the student’s grade in the student-specific lesson library. If the student belongs to a grade outside of those listed (i.e. Pre-K or NA), we will default to All Grades instead

  • This is a single-select filter

  • Selecting a grade will display the lessons associated with that grade. Selecting All Grades will display lessons associated with any grade

Domains Options

Design

  • We will show the following domains for Mental Health lesson type:

    • All Domains

    • Trauma

    • Reducing the Risk of Suicide

    • Substance Abuse

    • Human Trafficking

    • Anxiety

    • Depression

    • Bullying

    • Online Safety

    • LGBTQIA+

    • Kindness to Animals

Business Rules

  • We will default to All Domains

  • We should show all domain options without the need to click to “Show All”

    • This means REMOVE business logic that truncates the Domain List and removes the “Show All” button.

  • Selecting a domain will display lessons associated with that domain. Selecting All Domains will display lessons associated with any domain

  • There are no lesson areas for Mental Health

  • At time of launch, we should only show the lessons domains for which we have content. The estimated content timeline is as follows:

  • If the user selects assign video, assign, activity, or assign quiz, they will see the assign screen (same as SEL) to assign this content to the student center

  • If user selects Teach, they will see the Teach screen (same format as SEL lessons)

  • If the user selects Add to playlist, this lesson will be saved to the playlist

Business Rules

  • Program Name will show the name of the lesson

  • Activities for all teach sections (learn, practice, and dive deeper) may consist of video, PDF, PowerPoint, or PNG

  • There may be multiple activities per lesson (similar to how trauma currently works). We need to account for this on prep page and under actions menu when assigning activities

  • There will be no online vs in person lesson plans for mental health lessons

  • Domains and lessons should be listed in the order provided on content spreadsheets

  • We will count against student licenses.

    • IF Student licenses are exceed for this account, THEN show exceeds seats message.
