Overview

Admin Settings for Attendance contain a choice for Tracking Method:

  • Percentage Based

  • Days Based (In Development as of 5-20-24)

The Tracking Method applies to both Absences and Tardies. The Recommended Benchmark ranges (Total % or Total Days) are editable while the Tier Levels are not.

The default shown to the User is Percentage Based.

If no edits are made by the district level admin prior to the start of the school year, then the default Tracking Method (Percentage Based) and the Default Benchmark Criteria (shown in table below) are applied to the entire school year.

If edits are made to the Default Tracking Method and/or Benchmark Criteria prior to the start of the school year, then the edits are applied to the entire school year.

Since Attendance collection begins on the first day of school for students, Attendance Settings are extremely time sensitive and must be completed prior to the start of the school year.

Notes:

The same rules apply to both Absences and Tardies.

  • Total % ranges are editable with the following restrictions:

    • Tier 1 minimum is locked at 0%

    • Tier 3 maximum is locked at 100%

    • All Percentages from 0% to 100% are included within the ranges for Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 with no overlap.

    • Percentage values are smallest for Tier 1 and progress to largest for Tier 3.

    • Percentage ranges can be different for Absences and Tiers

  • Calculations:

    • The calculations begin 4 weeks into the school year for this method:

      • Total number of days absent / total cumulative days

      • Total number of days tardy / total cumulative days

      • Example: Given 4 weeks into the start of the school year, the calculation for absences would be:

        • Total number of days absent / 20 cumulative school days.

      • Calculations are updated nightly

  • Benefits for this method:

    • Tier Levels can change/ improve throughout the school year

      • A greater span of time without an absence / tardy decreases the percentage and reduces the intensity of the Tier.

  • Considerations for this method:

    • It may not be the more popular method.

    • Tiers are not reported until 20 cumulative school days
