How Observation time is Calculated

Observation time on the Rethink Mobile App is defined as the time that the user selects and adds skills or behavior programs to the “Record Client Data” page of the app to when that user either manually de-selects said program or behavior plan from the “Record Client data" page or data has successfully been synced at the end of the therapy session.

Some skills and behaviors do not need to be tracked for the whole duration of a session. Staff are able to start and stop the observation period for a particular program that is tracking frequency or duration on the mobile app by selecting and de-selecting the skill/ behavior from the program list. For example, if my session is 2 hours, but I only want to collect data for "Tying Shoes" for 1 hour of that session, I would open the program (select) and close the program (de-select) for a one-hour time frame. The observation time for “Tying Shoes” would then be 1 hour even though the session was 2 hours.

Good to Know!

1

Select the client for data collection. Go to SELECT PROGRAMS and tap the black arrow.

2

Tap the arrow next to BEHAVIORS to view behaviors available for data collection. Tap the box to the right of the behavior to select for data collection.

A staff can select one or multiple behaviors for data collection.

3

Tap the arrow in top right corner after selecting behaviors to begin the observation period for selected behavior(s).

By tapping the arrow, the observation period has started.

4

Collect data on behavior target(s).

5

If a staff wishes to stop the observation period for a particular behavior, tap the orange arrow in the left corner to access SELECT PROGRAMS

6

Tap the black arrow to the left of BEHAVIORS

7

Deselect the behavior(s) to stop the observation period.

Staff can select and deselect behavior(s) one-time during session to start and stop the observation period for a particular behavior(s).

8

Tap the orange arrow in the top right corner to continue collecting data.

9

Continue collecting data on selected behavior target(s).

The deselected behavior has now been removed from data collection.

After a target behavior has been deselected, the recorded data on the deselected target behavior will remain on the local device and will sync when the staff members chooses to do so at the end of the session.

10

After syncing data on the mobile app, a staff can check the BEHAVIOR DETAILS to see the data collected during the observation period.

BEHAVIOR DETAILS can also be viewed on the website by selecting VIEW DATA when in DATA ENTRY.

How Interval Data is Calculated

On the Mobile app, interval data collection can be conducted for both skills and behavior plans. Across the three interval recording types, Partial Interval, Whole Interval and Momentary Time Sample, you can adjust your mobile app settings to allow for interval times for skills and behaviors to automatically start at the beginning of a session or for interval times to be in the off position at the beginning of a session. While in a session staff can manually stop and reset interval timers for programs as desired. Below is a breakdown of how interval data is calculated for Partial interval, Whole interval and Momentary Time Sample.

Interval Data Collection Type

Calculation/Functionality with Syncing

Partial Interval

  • Recorded data/ skill or behavior occurred - Interval is scored as a yes, data is saved.

  • No recorded data/ skill or behavior did not occur - Interval is scored as a no, data is saved.

  • If a user uses the starts/resets option for partial interval in the middle of an interval and the skill/behavior occurred (user pressed occurred), the specific interval data will be included in the final calculation when syncing. Interval is scored as a yes for that interval.

  • User has not pressed occurred and reset/stops timer, the interval will be discarded since there was not an occurrence and the duration of the interval was not complete.

  • NOTE: If user used the interval settings and pre-set interval timers to begin in the STOP position, opened the skill/behavior for data collection, but never started the timer, then no data would be scored for skill/behavior.

Whole Interval

  • Recorded data/ the skill or behavior occurred - Interval is scored as a yes, data saved.

  • No recorded data/ skill or behavior did not occur - Interval is scored as a no, data saved.

  • If a user presses the start/reset with whole interval data collection in the middle of an interval and data has been recorded, the specific interval data will be discarded in the final calculation when syncing.

  • Start/reset - if the whole interval is turned on and then user starts the interval timer, it will simultaneously score the interval as a yes.

  • NOTE: If user used the interval settings and pre-set interval timers to begin in the STOP position, opened the skill/behavior for data collection, but never started the timer, then no data would be scored for skill/behavior.

Momentary Time Sample

  • Recorded data/ the skill or behavior occurred - Interval is scored as a yes, data is saved.

  • No recorded data/ skill or behavior did not occur - Interval is scored as a no, data is saved.

  • If a user uses the start/resets an interval in the middle of an interval and data has been recorded, the specific interval data will be discarded in the final calculation when syncing.

  • If a user uses the start/reset to take multiple MTS throughout a session - time samples, all time samples will be calculated as one data point when syncing the data ( ex. 3 x 10 minute time samples: 1- yes, 2 - yes, 3- no).

  • NOTE: If user used the interval settings and pre-set interval timers to begin in the STOP position, opened the skill/behavior for data collection, but never started the timer, then no data would be scored for skill/behavior.
