We need to update the SEL Norm criteria for next year for SEL Grades 3-5, 6-8, and 8-12

First, we only update the norms before the start of a new testing cycle, usually during a down period in the summer.  This keeps the norm consistent throughout the school year.  those years. It's important to note that updating the SEL Norm criteria is a critical task that should be done with care and precision to ensure the accuracy of the results. By following these steps, we can ensure that the SEL norms are updated and ready for use by the start of the next school year.

 

User Story

As a teacher, I want to be able to easily input my students' SEL scores on the Rethink platform and receive an accurate and reliable evaluation based on the updated SEL norms, so that I can monitor my students' social-emotional development and provide targeted support where needed.

To update the SEL Norm criteria for next year, we need to follow the following steps:

  1. Collect Data: By 6/1/23, Rethink should post a data file of students from August of 2022 to May of 2023. This data should include the SEL scores of students in Grades 3-5, 6-8, and 8-12. Attached is a sample layout for a data set that would enable ERB to generate updated norms for the 2023-24 school year.  It reference an “accession number” for each item, which we assume you have from the form planner posted to the SFTP.  If this number is not included in your database, then you can provide the item sequence number and exact item text.  That would enable us to match it to our item IDs.

2. Compute Score Conversions and Norms: By 7/1/23, ERB should compute score conversions and norms based on the data collected. These norms should be based on the most recent data available and should be calculated separately for each grade level.

3. Load Norms: By 8/1/23, Rethink should load the newly computed norms onto the Rethink platform, which will be used to test students in the 2023-24 school year.

4. Launch New Norms: By 8/15/23, Rethink should launch the new SEL norms for the 2023-24 school year. These new norms should be used to evaluate students' SEL scores throughout the school year.

 

Acceptance Criteria

  1. As a School administrator, I can access the updated SEL norms on the Rethink platform by 8/15/23.

  2. As a teacher, I can input students' SEL scores on the Rethink platform and receive an accurate and reliable evaluation based on the updated SEL norms.
