We need a way to see an overall picture of the student’s progress in SEL / Mental Health and Well-Being
User Story
As a teacher user, I need to see a full picture of the student’s academic performance in SEL so that I can provide the student with appropriate tools and intervention plans to help them reach their potential in this content area.
UI
The user will see tabs for ELA, Math, Behavior, SEL, and Attendance
The user clicks the SEL tab.
Suggested functionality
To select multiple years or multiple testing seasons (Fall, Spring), the user clicks on the year drop down and clicks on boxes for their selection.
Acceptance Criteria
Need to think about the value to customers. Should we limit the number of times SEL Self Assessment can be given?
User story: As a teacher who is concerned about a student(s) after a potentially traumatic event has occurred in our community, I need to administer an additional student self-assessment NOW so that I will be more aware of the student’s state of mind and can respond based on data rather than instinct alone.
Suggestion for how the above could work:
We could have a generous date range that divides the school year into whatever the user would like (semesters, quarters, etc) where all dates are included and date ranges are mutually exclusive.
We could have any subsequent test taken within a specified date range replace any and all that preceded it.
Would want to see all results of every test taken thus there could be more bar graphs showing for the Fall, Spring, etc.
Changing Semesters (Fall and Spring) (Tara is working on the best field for changing from Fall to Spring)
We have a prototype of an onboarding form that each customer will fill out before we integrate their data for the MTSS product. The form will allow them to choose how they want to report out time of year (with options for semester, trimester, quarter, and season; see Define School Year Settings ). Note that depending on the number of times districts administer their SEL/Wellness assessment and how they decide to report out time of year, there may be some periods of the school year for which there are no SEL/Wellness assessment scores (e.g., the district administers SEL assessments 2x per year in the fall and the spring but has a quarter system with fall, winter, spring, and summer).
The periods of time for the school year will be called whatever the customer selects for the Define School Year Settings Time Period field.
Everything about time periods will come from how the customer fills out Define School Year Settings. This includes:
How many time periods there are per year (e.g., 2 time periods if the customer selects semesters, 3 time periods if the customer selects trimester, etc.).
The start and end dates for the time periods selected.
The start and end dates for the school year.
The start of the first period of the year will be the date recorded in Define School Year Settings Start of School Year field. The end of the first period will be the date recorded in Define School Year Settings
Suggest: The Fall Semester ends and the Spring Semester Begins on the date that is the midpoint between the school year start date and the school year end date supplied by the customer in the form shown in Define School Year Settings. So if there were 300 days between the start of school year date and the end of school year date, the Fall Semester would end on the date that is 150 days past the start of school year date. The Spring Semester would start on the following date.
Suggest: The Spring semester ends with the School Year End date selected in Define School Year Settings.
Follow same rules for top section containing the student demographics, Academic Needs, Other Details and the Year Selector drop down explained in Overview.
We will use Student Self-Assessment to determine Tier Levels. See: SEL | Cut Scores | Settings | MTSS Report.
Changing Years
Dev feedback: User’s have functionality now to multi-select years to see progress over several years-don’t want to lose functionality with a new design.
This brings us back to Jrich: Start New School Year for MTSS Products.
Suggested Functionality-See image: Drop Down
The drop down will default to showing the current year’s results.
The bar graph will show a bar for each season selected and the chart below will show the data for each of the seasons selected.
Given the student has taken the Student Self Assessment over multiple years and/or multiple Seasons (Fall, Spring), then we will show the Year and Seasons listed in the drop down from the most recent to the least recent.
Example shows student who has taken the Student Self Assessment for two school years.
Given user has selected the box containing the school year, then both boxes for the Seasons will be checked automatically. (See image: Drop Down)
Given user has checked specific seasons that are from different school years, then we will show those selections in the graph and in the chart below.
User Story
As a teacher or admin user, I need to see the student’s score within each categories for SEL so that I will know the areas where the student has the most need when creating an intervention plan.
UI:
Acceptance Criteria:
Naming Categories
We will adjust the names and column headings to the state specifications for SEL-need to explain better for user who have the Wellness product or Life Skills and Wellness product.
Given I am a user who has the Wellness product, all headings and titles with SEL will be replaced with Wellness.
Given I am a user who has the Life Skills and Wellness product, all headings and titles with SEL will be replaced with Life Skills and Wellness.
The charts could contain more entries depending on year selection drop down.
Given user has selected multiple year’s, then we will show the Assessment Names, Tier Recommendation, Total Score, and corresponding Assessment Subcomponents
See image: Chart.
Assessment Names
We will show the following Assessment by default for the current year:
Fall
Spring
Tier Recommendation
We will show the Tier Recommendation based on the Total score.
Total Score
We will show the total score and the text description
Assessment Subcomponents
We will show the score and the text description by each of the subcomponents
We will show the following subcomponents:
Self-Management
Self-Awareness
Social Awareness
Relationship Skills
Resp. Decision Making
Given I am a user who has the Life Skills and Wellness product, I will also see the Resilience subscore for a total of 6 subcomponents.
Intervention Plan Buttons
User Story
As an educator viewing the student’s SEL tab, I need to see the intervention plans that have been in place or if there is no intervention plan in place so that I will know if we have addressed the student’s needs.
UI
User sees Intervention Plan History in chart.
To view an intervention plan that has been created, user clicks on the Intervention Plan Button.
Acceptance Criteria
See also: ELA | Student View | MTSS Dashboard Report for information about Viewing an Intervention Plan and 8 Tier Button variations.
Intervention Plan buttons change as they are updated by the user in Create/Edit Plans | View Plans | Classroom | Intervention Tracking.
Follow Define School Year Settings for range of dates indicating the start and stop of a school year.
Given no intervention plan has been created for the student during the school year, then the value under the Plan will read: None.
Here is Jrich: Start New School Year again: What becomes of intervention plans that were created at the end of the school year for the next school year? Should we rethink what Archived means for these? Right now users cannot un-archive an intervention plan and use it again. Other tools can be un-archived and used again.
Given use has selected Tier 2 or Tier 3 for the SEL plan in Create/Edit Plans | View Plans | Classroom | Intervention Tracking, then the button will show either Tier 2 or Tier 3.
Given the user has changed the status of the Intervention Plan in Create/Edit Plans | View Plans | Classroom | Intervention Tracking, the button will contain those updates.
Examples: Tier 2: Pre-planning, Tier 2: In-Progress, Tier 2: Archived, Tier 2: Mastered.
Examples: Tier 3: Pre-Planning, Tier 3: In-Progress, Tier 3: Archived, Tier 3: Mastered.
Given user has an existing In-Progress Intervention Plan at the same time they have a Pre-planning Intervention Plan, then we will show the In-Progress Intervention Plan button.
Given user clicks on the Intervention Plan button, then they are taken to view the Intervention Plan. (See image: View Intervention)
Tier Notices
User Story
As an educator who is creating and managing many student’s SEL Intervention Plans, I need a notice telling me when a student’s test score indicates that they are not a Tier 1 so that I can focus my attention on the students who are most in need of an intervention.
UI
User sees Tier notice when the SEL tab is clicked.
To create an intervention plan, the user clicks on Take Action button within the Tier Notice.
User is taken to the Create Intervention Plan screen with the Social Tab selected.
Acceptance Criteria
General
Only one Tier Notice can be shown at a time.
Do we want to have a way for the user to remove the Tier Notice?
Appearance of Tier Notices--Think about the statuses--what can user bring back? They can’t bring back Mastered…or Archived?
Given the student’s score on the Fall and/or Spring assessment falls within the Tier 2 range and the student DOES NOT have an intervention plan (Tier 2 or Tier 3) in the Pre-Planning or In-Progress statuses, then the Tier 2 Notice will show.
Given the student score on the Fall and/or Spring assessment falls within the Tier 3 range and the student DOES NOT have an intervention plan (Tier 2 or Tier 3) in the Pre-Planning or In-Progress statuses, then the Tier 3 Notice will show.
See image: Tier 2 Notice for an example.
Plan Status Column
Plan Status possibilities where a Tier Notice would be shown
None (shown when no Tier Plan has been created)
Archived
Mastered
Plan Status possibilities where a Tier Notice would NOT be shown
Pre-Planning
In-Progress
Operation of Tier Notices
Given Take Action button is clicked from any of the Tier Notices (Tier 2 or Tier 3), then we show the create intervention plan with the Social Tab Selected. (See image: Create Intervention)
Given Take Action is not selected, then the Tier Notice (Tier 2 or Tier 3) remains.
Removal of Tier Notices
Tier Notices are for the current school year only.
Given user clicks on Take action and an Intervention Plan is created (Statuses: Pre-Planning or In-Progress), then the Tier Notice is removed.
Given no user clicks on Take action and DOES NOT create an Intervention Plan (Statuses: Pre-Planning or In-Progress), then the Tier notice IS NOT removed.
Given user clicks on Take action and an Intervention Plan is created (Statuses: Pre-Planning or In-progress) when there is an intervention in place with the statuses of (Archived or Mastered), then the newly created plan replaces the the old archived or mastered plan. (See section above for Intervention Plans)
At Risk and Approaching Indicators
User Story
As a teacher or admin user, I need to quickly see if a student’s score is At Risk of dropping to a more intensive tier or if they are Approaching a less intensive tier so that I know which students can benefit from an intervention plan the most.
UI
Tier selections occur in Settings. See image below from Settings to illustrate example of how Risk and Approaching indicator work.
User sees the At Risk indicator in the chart below.
User sees the Approaching indicator in the chart below.
Acceptance Criteria
Image: From Settings shows the default for Tiers for SEL.
Apply these defaults to examples below to understand how At Risk and Approaching indicators function.
Total possible score on Student SEL Self-assessment is 100.
Given the Tier Levels have been assigned to Total score ranges as follows:
Tier 1: Greater than or equal to 45 (Average, High, Very High)
Tier 2: Equal to or greater than 35 and less than or equal to 44 (Low)
Tier 3: Less than or equal to 34 (Very Low)
At Risk Indicators
Tier 1 At Risk Indicator shows when score is 45, 46 or 47. (See image: Tier 1 At Risk Indicator)
Tier 2 At Risk Indicator shows when score is 35, 36, 37.
At risk indicators and Tier Notices can show at the same time.
Given a student scored within 2% of the Tier 2 cut off (Score of 35, 36, or 37), then we will show both the Tier 2 Notice and the Tier 2 At Risk Indicator.
At Risk indicators remain until a subsequent test is taken, then the rules for At risk apply to that new score.
Approaching Indicators
Approaching Tier 2 is shown when the student’s score is in the Tier 3 range and within 2% of the Tier 2 cut off. (Score of 34 or 33 or 34).
Approaching Tier 1 is shown when the student’s score is in the Tier 2 range and within 2% of the Tier 1 cut off. (Score of 44 or 43 or 42).
Approaching indicators remain until a subsequent test is taken, then the rules for Approaching apply to that new score.
