Lessons/Bonus | Reorganize the Student Center

We are replacing the Activities and Videos tabs in the Student Center with the Lessons/Bonus tab. This is where we will house all pre-populated and assigned SEL/MH content and organize it by lesson.

User Stories:

  • As a student, I want to be able to quickly search content on a given topic

  • As a student, I want to be able to find lesson content that I have recently completed

  • As a student, I want to be able to explore lesson by domains/topics and know the amount of lessons that I have completed in each domain in relation to how many remain

Acceptance Criteria:

  • Given I am a student in grades Early Intervention, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 I will see the younger student UI

  • Given I am NOT a student in grades Early Intervention, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, I will see the older student UI

  • Given I am a student with access to 2 or more SEL or Mental Health lessons, I will see this section

  • Given I am a student with access to less than 2 SEL or Mental Health lessons, I will NOT see this section

  • Given I have clicked into this section, I will see all lessons in which I have access to at least 1 item

  • Given I do not have access to any lessons for a given domain, I will not see that section

  • Given I have access to a lesson from a lesson domain, I will see that lesson domain

  • Given I have clicked on a lesson, and I have access to only 1 item from that lesson, I will be taken directly to that video/assignment/quiz

  • Given I have clicked on a lesson, and I have access to 2 or more items from that lesson, I will be taken to the assignment scope viewer

  • Given I have performed a search, my search results will appear at the top of the screen

  • Given I have not accessed any lessons ever, I will not see the recent section

  • Given I have accessed lessons in the past, I will see up to 10 recent lessons, listed in order of most recently accessed

General Concept

UI

  • When the student clicks on the Lessons (older UI) or Bonus (younger UI) tab, they will see a Netflix-style screen with a search bar and Video title below

  • We will show a section for recently accessed lessons, as well as a category for each domain

  • When a student clicks on a lesson, they will be taken to the Assignment Scope Viewer

Business Rules

  • Students assigned to grades Early Intervention, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 will see the younger UI version

  • Students NOT assigned to grades Early Intervention, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 will see the older UI version

  • Younger Students will see the tab as Bonus

  • Older Students will see the tab as Lessons

  • This section will show if a student has access to 2 or more SEL or Mental Health lessons.

  • All lesson cards will use a still from the video that displays the lesson name

  • If the student has access to only 1 item from a given lesson, they will be directed to the video or assignment directly instead of the assignment scope viewer.

Search

UI

  • Students may search for a lesson by lesson name, keyword, domain, or area

  • Younger students may also search using speech to text

  • Once the student performs a search, the results will populate in a single row along the top .The user will see their inputted search/Results then the other headings and videos on screen

  • If the student types in a keyword that yields no results they will see the following messages below the search bar

    • Younger: 0 (inputted response) videos. Try again!

    • Older: No search results were found. Try again!

  • The Watch Again/ Recent are fixed on the screen until the search yields results which are added to the top.

Business Rules

  • Any lesson the student currently has access to that matches the search result will be displayed

  • Set text limit to 30 characters in the search engine for younger and older students

Recent

UI

  • We will display any recently accessed lessons under the Recent (older UI)/Watch Again (Younger UI) section

Business Rules

  • If the student has never accessed any lessons, this section will not show

  • We will display up to 10 recently accessed lessons, in the order they were most recently accessed. The student must still have access to this lesson.

  • A recent lesson is one for which the student has clicked on an assignment (any type) associated with that lesson.

  • If the student has not performed a search, this will be the top row

  • If the student has performed a search, recent lessons will fall below the search (second row)

Lesson Domains

UI

  • Below the results and recent areas, we will list a header for each lesson domain for SEL lessons, and a single header for Mental Health, using age-appropriate terminology

  • Each section will list all lessons with that domain/mental health lesson area

Business Rules

  • Lessons will be listed in this order:

    • SEL

      • Awareness of Self & Others

      • Self-Management

      • Social Skills

      • Social Awareness

      • Self-Care

      • Trauma

  • Mental Health

  • We will use age-friendly terminology

  •
