Student Dashboard ELA Tab: Features and UI Explanation

Overview

When selected, the ELA tab is underlined and highlighted in blue. The default view is the current year and the most current assessment given. If more than 1 specific assessment has been given to a student within a given year, then we show an additional tab selection on the left side of the graph. (Example: Student is given the Star Early Literacy Test at the beginning of the year and later on is given the Star Ready test).

Academic areas (ELA and Math) share the same look and functionality since they both show integrated data from Assessment(s). We currently have three different assessment makers which comprise 7 different assessments (See: Admin Settings: ELA and Math for more information). The contents of the tab are specific to the assessment used.

Page Contents: Graph and Chart

ELA and Math tabs contain integrated data selected by the district to determine Tier Levels.

Graph Overview:

The graph represents data for a single Assessment (example: Star Early Literacy). As the year progresses, assessment results are added to the graph. If a student takes a single assessment multiple times within the same period established in Define School Year, then the graph shows the most recent assessment results. (See Chart Overview below for multiple assessments within the same period).

If a student has taken two or more different assessments within the same school year (Star Early Literacy and Star Reading), then a secondary tab will show to the left of the graph. The tests are ordered with the most recent as the default and any additional assessments listed from most recent to least recent within the tab to the left of the graph. To view an earlier test, the User clicks on the tab to the left of the graph and the graph contents and corresponding chart beneath it will show for the selected test.

The title of the Assessment is at the top left within the graph.

The Key shows the criteria established in Admin Settings (ELA and Math) for the Assessment. The Key includes Benchmark Names (if applicable: iReady does not have Benchmark Names), the Tier Level and the Percentile Rank ranges within each Tier Level. The text shown in the Key is also in color to represent each Tier Level.

  • Blue is Tier 1

  • Yellow is Tier 2

  • Red is Tier 3

The Graph shows a scale ranging from 0% to 100% with intervals of 10%. The colors within the graph (blue, yellow, red) correspond to those in the Key so that the User has a visual marker for each Tier Level. The students score(s) will show as a bar label by the period in which the test was taken.

Hovers are located over the bars that show the student’s Percentile Rank and Scaled Score when the User hovers over or clicks on a bar within the graph.

Chart Overview:

The Chart below the graph shows more comprehensive information than the graph. The Chart contains data for every time the student took a test within a given school year. It is organized with the most recent testing administration first and follows to the least recent. Unlike the graph that shows only the most recent test results for a given period, the chart shows a line for each instance the student has taken a test within a period and also includes data for the entire year.

The Chart contains standard headings and values for all of the current Assessments we offer including:

Period

  • Determined in Define School year

Date

  • Value beneath is the Date that tells when the test was taken

Tier Recommendation

  • The recommended Tier based on Admin Settings: ELA and Math

Percentile Rank

  • Value beneath is the student’s percentile Rank for the test

Overall Scaled Score

  • Value beneath is the student’s Overall score for the test

Plan (See also: Intervention Plans Tab: Features and UI Functionality and/or Overview Page: Features and UI Functionality)

  • Value beneath Plan identify a current Intervention Plan.

    • This is also a button. When clicked, it takes the User to view the Intervention Plan

    • Intervention Plan varieties:

      • T2 (Pre-Planning, In-Progress, Archived, Mastered

      • T3 (Pre-Planning, In-Progress, Archived, Mastered

  • Value beneath Plan show the text “None” if an Intervention plan has not been created

The Chart can contain Custom Headings which include additional custom values beneath them.

  • At this time, we can enter custom fields if the district requests them. The custom fields are limited to just showing values and contain no functionality. Custom fields are unique to the Assessment and need to be evaluated to see if they will work. Some examples of custom fields are: Duration and Grade equivalency.

Information Icons

Chart headings may include an information icon that when hovered over / clicked on show text to explain the heading.

When hovering/clicking on Tier Recommendation, the User sees the their District Level Admin’s settings for determining Tiers.
