Student Dashboard Overview Page: Features and UI Explanation

Overview

The Overview Page is the default landing place for the Student Dashboard. It is underlined and highlighted in blue when selected. The Student Overview page gives a high level view of the individual student’s progress across all areas that the district has purchased/included.

A unique feature to the Student Dashboard Overview Tab is the calculations for the Donut graphs. The graphs include data from all students within the same building and grade. This view shows an analysis of how each individual student compares to their peers within the same building and grade. The individual student’s placement within each of the graphs (ELA, Math, Behavior, SEL, Attendance) is emphasized (bold) so that the User has a quick visual reference for the Student they are viewing.

In addition, Tier Notices prompt the user to take action (Create Intervention Plan) when student data reveals an opportunity to grow in academics/behavior/SEL/Attendance.

Tier Notices

Tier Notices show under the Overview Tab. Tier Notices inform the User when a student has data which meets the criteria for either Tier 2(orange) or Tier 3(red) and DOES NOT have an intervention plan in place.

Tier Notices ARE NOT shown when the student has an intervention plan in the Pre-Planning or In-Progress statuses. Tier Notices ARE SHOWN when the student has an intervention plan in the MASTERED or ARCHIVED status.

Tier Notices contain the following structure:

  • Notice Symbol

    • Triangle with exclamation point inside

  • Heading

    • Indicates the area

      • Areas include: ELA, Math, Behavior, SEL (varieties), Attendance

        • Example text reads: Math Tier Notice

  • Tier Notice Number

    • If there are additional Tier Notices for other areas, then we show a count in the bottom right corner with and arrow to view additional Tier Notices.

      • The most recent Tier Notice appears on top with the other beneath it.

      • At most, there could be 6 Tier Notices: one Tier Notice per Area (ELA, Math, Behavior, SEL) AND 2 for Attendance (Absence Tier Notice, Tardy Tier Notice)

  • Take Action Button

    • Clicking the Take Action button takes the User to the Intervention Plan Create screen with the area (ELA, Math, Behavior, SEL) selected in green.

    • Given the Take Action button is selected for an Attendance Tier Notice, then we take the User to the Intervention Plans Tab.

Tier Notices Functionality:

  • Tier Notices remain on the Student Overview Page for:

    • ELA and Math (Tier 2 or Tier 3) if no intervention plan has been created before the next test administration completion date. Most Tests are given several times throughout the school year.

    • Behavior (Tier 2 or Tier 3), if no intervention plan has been created and the student’s data indicates that their Tier Level remains the same.

    • SEL (Tier 2 or Tier 3), if no intervention plan has been created before the next test administration (SEL has two administrations: Fall and Spring) OR the subsequent test administration indicates that the student’s Tier Level has not changed.

    • Attendance

      • Known issue: Attendance Tier Notices remain.

  • Tier Notice are removed from Student Overview Page for:

    • ELA and Math (Tier 2 or Tier 3), when an intervention plan has been created before the next test administration

    • Behavior (Tier 2 or Tier 3) when an intervention plan has been created.

    • SEL (Tier 2 or Tier 3) when an intervention plan has been created before the subsequent test administration

    • Attendance

      • Known issue: Attendance Tier Notices remain.

  • Tier Notices are replaced from the Student Overview Page for:

    • ELA and Math when a student’s score on a subsequent test(s) falls within a the range of a different tier. (Example: Student scores in Tier 2 range on first test and no intervention plan was created. Then student takes another test and now they score in the Tier 3 range. Tier 3 Tier Notice is shown)

    • Behavior when an intervention plan has not been created and student’s number of incidents has increased from a Tier 2 range to a Tier 3 range. We show a Tier Notice for Tier 3.

      • Note: There is a reset period established in Settings that restores a student to Tier 1 after a set time period has passed without any incidents. This automatically returns the student to Tier 1 and erases any outstanding Tier Notices. The same process according to Admin Settings Behavior begins again.

    • SEL when an intervention plan has not been created and the student’s score on the second test falls within a different Tier.

    • Attendance when the student’s attendance reaches criteria for a different Tier, then we show the new Tier Notice.

Donut Graphs

  • Donut graphs are included for:

    • ELA, Math, Behavior, SEL, Attendance (Tab within graph for Absence/Tardy)

Percentages in Graphs are calculated by:

  • Total Count of students at each tier (for the specified grade level within the building) divided by total number of students (for the specified grade level within the same building).

    • Bolded Tier in Donut Graph represents the tier where the student scored

Example Calculation:

(Math Graph) Test score ranges from Settings:

  • Tier 1: 80%-100%

  • Tier 2: 40%-79%

  • Tier 3: 0% - 39%

Students enrolled in Grade 9 at Sunnyside Highschool: 100

Results include:

  • 10 students score in Tier 1 (within 80%-100%)

  • 50 students score in Tier 2 (within 40% -79%)

  • 30 students score in Tier 3 (within 0% - 39%)

  • 10 students are enrolled at the school and grade level but haven’t taken the test.

  • Math Donut graph would show:

    • 10% Tier 1

    • 50% Tier 2

    • 30% Tier 3

    • 10% NO DATA

Example Calculation:

(Math Graph) Test score ranges from Settings:

  • Tier 1: 80%-100%

  • Tier 2: 40%-79%

  • Tier 3: 0% - 39%

Students enrolled in Grade 9 at Sunnyside Highschool: 100

Results include:

  • 10 students score in Tier 1 (within 80%-100%)

  • 50 students score in Tier 2 (within 40% -79%)

  • 30 students score in Tier 3 (within 0% - 39%)

  • 10 students are enrolled at the school and grade level but haven’t taken the test.

  • Math Donut graph would show:

    • 10% Tier 1

    • 50% Tier 2

    • 30% Tier 3

    • 10% NO DATA

Chart

  • Category

    • Categories are a repeat for each of the tabs: ELA, Math, Behavior, SEL, Attendance (Absences, Tardies)

  • Tier Recommendation

    • Shows the Tier the student currently occupies and also includes some simple information pertinent to the category (ELA, Math, Behavior, SEL, Attendance)

      • Examples: percentile rank/benchmark name (ELA/Math) or if student has been restored to Tier 1 since no further behavior incidents have occurred for X number of weeks. (established in Admin Settings Behavior Tab)

  • Plan

    • Shows the Intervention Plan with it’s Tier and Status

      • Tier possibilities are: Tier 2 and Tier 3

      • Status possibilities are: Pre-planning, Active, Mastered, Archived

      • The Intervention Plan UI is also a button that opens to the Intervention Plan if clicked

      • If there is no intervention plan in place, then we show the word: None

There is a connection between Intervention Plan Statuses and Tier Notices.

  • Given an intervention plan is in place in any of the following statuses, then we DO NOT show the Tier Notice

    • Tier 2: Pre-planning, Active

    • Tier 3: Pre-planning, Active

    • Given an intervention plan in any of the following statuses, then we DO show the Tier Notice:

      • Tier 2: Archived, Mastered

      • Tier 3: Archived, Mastered

    • The Tier Notices (Tier 2 or Tier 3) the User sees are determined by the Admin Settings (See: Define School Year and Admin Settings)

    • Users DO NOT need to use our Tier Recommendation

      • Example: If the student scores in a Tier 2 range and we show a Tier 2 Notice, the User is free to create a Tier 3 Intervention Plan.

        • If User creates an Intervention Plan that is different from what is recommended, we label the Intervention Plan with the Tier the User has created.

At Risk / Approaching Indicators (within the chart)

ELA and Math

  • At Risk (Down Arrow)

    • If the student’s score is within 2 % of a more intensive tier, then At Risk indicator is shown.

      • Shown for Tier 1, and Tier 2 statuses

  • Approaching (Up Arrow)

    • If a student’s score is within 2 % of a less intensive tier, then Approaching indicator is shown.

      • Shown for Tier 3, and Tier 2 statuses

Behavior

  • At Risk (Down Arrow)

    • If the student has reached the upper cut-off limit for the number of incidents within a Tier group (established in Admin Settings), then an At Risk Indicator is shown

      • Shown for Tier 1 and Tier 2 statuses

  • There are no Approaching Indicators (Up Arrow) for Behavior

SEL

Note: Cut off for each of the Tiers are established in Admin Settings SEL Tab. Cut-offs apply to the Total Score (not SEL subsets) within the Tiers established in Admin Settings.

  • At Risk (Down Arrow)

    • If the student has scored at the lower Cut-off / within 1 of the lower Cut-off for for Tier 1 and Tier 2

  • Approaching (Up Arrow)

    • If the student has scored at the higher Cut-off / within 1 of the higher Cut-off for Tier 3 or Tier 2

Attendance

Note: Summer 2024 development for Attendance touches the logic for At Risk / Approaching indicators for Days Based. Stay tuned for updates.

Note: Summer 2024 development for Attendance touches the logic for At Risk / Approaching indicators for Days Based. Stay tuned for updates.

Both Methods (Percentage Based and Days Based)

  • There is a line for each component of Attendance

    • Examples: Absence, Tardy

    • Both Absence and Tardy have calculations for determining Tiers.

    • It is possible for a student to have different Tier Levels for Absences and Tardies.

    • It is possible to only have Absence data

At Risk (Down Arrow)

  • For Percentage Based: The At Risk Indicator is shown when the student’s Attendance (Absences / Tardies) reaches within 1% of the minimum cut-off for Tier 1 and Tier 2.

Approaching (Up Arrow)

  • For Percentage Based: The Approaching Indicator is shown when the student’s Attendance (Absences / Tardies) reaches within 1% of the maximum cut of for Tier 2 and Tier 3.
